Logical proclivity with a well-groomed techie foundation is capable of making rapid inroads in the contemporary technocratic world. Rohit Patel, son of Balram Patel, a resident of Harda, a town in central Madhya Pradesh, and a student of Resonance of 2003-04 batch, reflected as a live example of meticulous learning metamorphosed in practicality, when he joined the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata in the year 2004 to gain the degree of Bachelor of Statistics (Hons.).
He then completed his masters from the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi in the year 2009 with 63.8%. His skilled personality always made him lead, he served as Representative and President of Students Council elected by students at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi. He twice won the national level ‘On the spot essay writing competition on Statistics’, awarded by Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, securing second position each time.
Rohit is one of the recipients of KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana), from Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, 2004. He was also a part of the group of around two dozen students selected for NIUS (National Initiative on Undergraduate Sciences); an initiative by Govt. of India and overseen by HBCSE-TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai).
He has been working with Indian Statistical Institute since June 2009 on researching mechanisms for fair allocation of indivisible objects under the supervision of Professor Arunava Sen. From December 2008 till date he remained part-time consultant with IMRB International. Parallel to the working as a consultant, he worked for the M.Stat program from December 2008 to May 2008 and also  worked as a researcher at Indian Statistical Institute from June 2008 till date. Currently, he is working with the Research Division (Marketing Sciences Group)-constructing statistical models and researching mathematical framework of existing techniques for use in Market Research. Discrete Choice Modeling, Multidimensional Unfolding, Polytomous Rasch Models, Structural Equation Modeling and Cluster analysis etc are some of his research topics, used to discover underlying market trends and causal relationships.
His mathematical insight and scientific flair helped him devise a mechanism for fair allocation of indivisible objects in the case when there are multiple objects and bidders and object valuations are same over bidders. Till date, he is studying the properties of the auction. He wrote a paper (internal paper for IMRB al framework and implemented it in software with Graphic User Interface for Brand Image Profiling using association type of data, as part of work at IMRB International. International) on implementation of Bradley-Terry models in Market Research, and a software using R to do the same. Rohit was recently offered admission by some of the best universities of the world including Penn State University (Pennsylvania, USA), Rochester University (New York, USA), University of Wisconsin-Madison (Wisconsin, USA), London School of Economics (London, UK), and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (Illinois, USA) with funding from almost all the schools. Very soon he will be joining the Kellogg School of Management for Ph.D. in “Managerial Economics and Strategy” with full financial support. Kellogg School of Management is one of the top business schools in the world.
