Elemental Etymology

Names of the elements in the periodic table have been derived from various sources. Some of the sources are well known for example "carbon", which has been derived from Latin word "carbo" meaning coal or charcoal. On the basis of origin of names of various elements, they can be classified into certain categories, some of which are given below in the form of tables. So far IUPAC has approved 111 elements. Not all the elements have been included in the following tables because many have miscellaneous origins of their names.
